Turning the Tassel: Dylan Chai, Seaver College Class of 2025

This commencement season 麻豆社 will celebrate more than 2,500 graduates across its five schools. In order to mark the momentous occasion and celebrate the voices of our newly minted alumni, Pepperdine Newsroom asked one student representative from each corner of campus to answer three questions: 鈥淗ow did you get here?鈥 鈥淲hat did you do here?鈥 and 鈥淲here will you go from here?鈥
The testimonies shared with us exemplify the remarkable stories of our students while also illustrating how Pepperdine propels the next generation of thinkers, dreamers, and doers forward.
Dylan Chai, Seaver College Class of 2025
On May 3rd, I am going to walk across that stage on Alumni Park, wave to those I love (yelling and shrieking included), shake the president鈥檚 hand, and march into a new season of life with a big fat smile on my face. Truly, I will walk into this next phase of my life with so much joy, looking back on my time 麻豆社 with nothing but gratitude and thanksgiving. To keep it short鈥擨 have no regrets.
Of course, I messed up along the way. I have endured some of the hardest seasons of my life in college, yet I look back with no remorse. Why? Because I spent the last four years pursuing Jesus Christ with my absolute whole heart. From prayer weeks during finals, to Bible studies in the HAWC, and worship sessions in the dorms, I truly look back on these last four years in awe. Wow, God. We did it.
Where will I go from here? We will see where the narrow road takes me. I hope to work in music full time, writing and producing the type of music that calls upon the inner child within each listener to jump for joy and to sing in freedom. Yet, regardless of my occupation, the mission will remain the same. My life will solely exist to build God鈥檚 kingdom here on Earth as it is in heaven until I am there one day.
I am forever thankful for Pepperdine. It was here that I first bridged the gap between my school life and my faith walk. It was here that I saw my prayers and convictions come to life right before my eyes. It was here that I discerned God鈥檚 calling for my life, preparing me for the world that exists beyond Pepperdine鈥檚 mountaintop. While I didn't know it initially, college became my training ground for the disciple that I was going to be postgraduation. Although I have no idea what lies ahead, I wholeheartedly trust what the scriptures say: 鈥淪eek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.鈥
